Howdy, friends, and welcome back to the show.
My 3rd Report on Tim Fleming naturally got a good bit of traction & I’m glad. I feel as if as many folks as possible need to know the full lay of the land here.
Driving around the home city proper, you can get a real feel for things based on whose houses you see Tim’s signs. For the most part, the usual suspects, and maybe a couple of surprises (disappointments?). But, and others have noticed this as well, maybe not as many as may have been suspected; regardless, the old saying does ring true — yard signs don’t vote.
Won’t be handicapping HD 114 for at least another couple of weeks but as I’ve previously said — Tim’s gotta have Covington on full lockdown. I’m not sure he can.
Property Taxes
It’s that time of year again. The tax assessments are going out. And. They. ARE. OFF. THE. CHARTS!
Well, hell, you knew it was coming w/ these ridiculous sales prices we’ve been seeing. But it definitely looks like Jordan’s Tax Assessor & his team are more on the aggressive side when it comes to deriving market value.
Again, folks are going to have to appeal. Hell, why not. It’s worth a shot.
But the key is going to be the process that’s well underway — the Newton BOC and the M & O Budget. We will HAVE to have a major, major millage decrease & all of the departments will really need to tighten the belt & the BOC will be vital to sending that message to staff and making the right call when it comes time to adopt.
But the real key will be for the Citizenry to flex their muscle & make it abundantly clear how it’s got to be. And while maybe they won’t be voting on it until late June, now is the time to go ahead & start letting ‘em know about it.
In a future Substack piece I will share the contact info for the BOC & The Chairman.
Phil Johnson
I’ve begun the first report in earnest but cannot give an ETA on it at this time.
The focus for this initial piece will be the Zuck Bucks that Newton Co. did receive. Yessir. Yes indeed. They did. The Zuck Bucks were part of the overt election interference campaign waged by the bad guys all over America & Georgia in 2020 that Time Magazine later admitted.
There’s a big story here, I believe.
We’ll see what we see.
Best,
- MBM
