**updated 3/16/22: Vernon Jones has publicly stated that he has moved to Morgan Co. To be fair, he has had issues in the past in which certain persons legally challenged his residency when running for public office**
Howdy Folks, and welcome back to the program.
Qualifying week has come & gone. Let’s get a lay of the land for the home county, state & country.
In this piece we’ll be looking at just the GOP side (I will be doing another one for the Dems later).
Here’s a nifty image compliments of the Newton Co GOP:
Federal
Herschel Walker WILL be the GOP nominee for the US Senate seat. And what about turtle-looking Gary Black? Have you seen any of his ads? Man, somebody needs to tell him to just give it up already — he’s embarrassing himself.
The battle in the 4th is for the person who will lose by at least a 70/30 split to Dr Guam himself - Hank Johnson - in November.
The 10th Congressional district race is very exciting & interesting though. The wildcard is Vernon Jones who purportedly on the orders of Trump himself got out of the Gubernatorial contest to declare & qualify for GA 10. And no, he doesn’t live in the district (political deep cut - in US Congressional races one does not have to live in the district to qualify or run but must move there upon assuming office). Not so sure Vernon really has a shot though.
I like Mike Collins in this one. He’s the real deal & I previously supported him in 2014 when he ended up losing to current seat holder Jody Hice. Also, he’s in the top tier of likely candidates to make the run-off (and there will be a run-off) along w/ Timothy Barr.
Great State of GA
Moving forward I’ll be doing dedicated pieces on the Governor’s, Lt. Gov & Secretary of State races. Obviously the GOV race will be one for the record books. Most likely it will be extremely dirty & will involve millions & millions of dollars. Whew, gettin’ hot & bothered just thinking about it. Can Perdue win it? Absolutely. Will he? Guess we’ll see. So much can happen in this one & there are already many multi-faceted story lines going on w/ perhaps one of the biggest happening right here in our backyard — Rivian.
Both the Lt Gov & SOS races should be exciting to watch as well w/ both possibly going to run-offs.
In terms of the Georgia General Assembly, we’ve got two very interesting ones.
Naturally, HD 114 is huge & is one I’ve already covered a time or two. I will be writing about this one multiple times in the months ahead.
Somewhat surprisingly we see a competed race for SD 17. That’s one that I’ll begin to delve into presently.
None of the Newton Co primaries are contested so I’ll be holding off on those until after we get done w/ the primary season.
Politics! Gotta love it.
