Yes, friends, you read that right. The Mr. “wE tOoK bAcK oUr CiTy!!1!” Councilman voted to approve this zoning amendment on the property owned by Billy Fortson et al.
The Particulars
This was approved w/ conditions.
- No entrance/exit on Turner Lake Rd (thank God for that at least…would’ve been an absolute traffic nightmare)
- no building permits issued until Turner Lake Enhancement (conversion to 4 lanes & Double Roundabout at 278 & Turner Lake) is completed (estimated by the city to be approx 4 yrs), though they can begin work on grading & infrastructure prior to that
The Devil is in the Details
This apparently was a compromise of sorts; however, the city had NO legal basis or reasoning to amend the zoning here. None whatsoever. It was fully w/in constitutional parameters (no violation of Due Process; not an illegal taking) to deny. Anyone who tells you otherwise is knowingly lying or is simply ignorant.
I think this “compromise” was sold on the supposed 4-yr timetable. Any bets against that timeline getting moved up? I mean, considering who owns it & all. If you want to take that bet please reach out. Also, I’ve got some oceanfront property in Tennessee to sell you.
And the home city continues to slip away in real time before our very eyes.
Sad but entirely not surprising.
